Moses did as the Lord commanded him.
He took Joshua, had him stand before Eleazar the priest and the entire community,
laid his hands on him, and commissioned him, as the Lord had spoken through
Moses.
41 years
ago when I arrived in Ames there was no Cornerstone Church, but Grand Ave.
Baptist Church was here. Beginning with a hand full of students,
we began to share the gospel with as many freshmen as we could find on campus at ISU.
God’s Word proved true time and again as students trusted Christ as their
Savior.
Imagine Moses putting his strong, capable hands on your shoulders saying, "Go get 'em!" in a public display of confirmation. It is important to select godly men to continue the good work. It is good to encourage them and reassure others by publicly commending them to the good work ahead.
It is also good to hold loosely all that God allows us to build. During the years I was at ISU, we had the vision
of starting a campus ministry at UNI. God kept us more than busy however in blessing the growing SALT Co. at ISU. I am excited that these men now have the opportunity to go and get after this good work at UNI.
Moses did not lead Israel into the promised land. But he was given the privilege of raising up and releasing the man who would.
God, please bless and use the team
of men and women you have led to leave homes, jobs, families and friends as
they move to the Cedar Falls/Waterloo area.
Bless their desire to be obedient to Your call to “Go and make
disciples” at the UNI campus by planting a church for Your honor and glory in
that community! May they train up and
disciple many to carry the torch to the next generation. Amen.
